Senate approves Revised BSc in Electrical and Electronic Engineering Syllabus
The senate has approved the revised syllabus for BSc in Electrical and Electronic Engineering programme. This syllabus will be implemented starting with the first years who will join in September 2022.
The syllabus for the Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronic Engineering is being reviewed to reflect technological advances in the field of electrical and electronic engineering. Though the old syllabus served the sector well due to its grounding in electrical engineering fundamentals and ease of interpretation to include new and emerging technologies in the field, it is now necessary to formalise some of these emerging areas in the syllabus.
The review was further informed by the needs of the Industry as expressed through various stakeholders’ fora. The need for graduates better attuned to the industrial needs of the country and region thus provides added impetus for the review. Engineering drives most of the pillars of the Kenya Vision 2030 strategic policy plan and is one of the main pillars for industrialisation as envisioned in the document. It is thus a national duty to produce the required manpower and skill-set to drive the industrialization agenda forward.
The review, in seeking to enhance the skill-set of the graduates, introduces course units to foster entrepreneurship and a practical hands-on approach to electrical engineering training. By including the major emerging areas for coverage in the new curriculum, the course equips the department to be at the forefront of technological development and innovation.
