Release of Performance Contracting Results to Colleges & Central Administration Departments

The University of Nairobi (UoN), officially released the performance Contracting results for the years 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 to Colleges and Central Administration Units, during a ceremony held on Wednesday May 14, 2014 at the main campus.

During his presentation, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (A&F), Prof. Peter M.F. Mbithi, took the audience through the Performance Contracting (PC) journey that began in the year 2005.  He noted that the PC status had significantly improved from very good, on its inception, to the current excellent. Some of the elements used for the PC included college rankings, Webometrics, satisfaction indices growth in revenue and capital expenditure growth.

During his opening remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. George Magoha, welcomed all those who were present and cited that the day was of utmost importance and joy, as UoN was marking a new milestone. He said that the university had improved significantly in performance and was now more efficient in service delivery, as enshrined in its vision and mission. He thanked all those who, in one way or the other, contributed to this achievement.

The Chairman of council, Dr. Idle Farah said he was very delighted to be present in gracing the occasion with the UoN fraternity. He said that the PC was of great essence, because it was in line with the vision 2030 and was also transparent. It provided the capacity to measure what the university had so far achieved, based on its strategic plan. He assured that the university council would continue supporting UoN realize excellence in teaching, research and community service.

UoN Chancellor, Dr. Vijoo Rattansi, informed the audience that the aim of the introduction of the PC, in 2005 was to offer quality service delivery in all colleges, units and departments. She further thanked the Ministry of Education for their goodwill and support to the university. She also thanked the VC and the management team for the stunning performance, of being the best university in the country.

The chief guest, Dr. Belio Kipsang, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, who was represented by Mr. Milton Njugi, said that he was impressed with the performance of the UoN and that it occupied a special place in his ministries agenda. He noted also that PC allows institutions and organization to adopt good practices that allowed for significant improvements. He concluded his remarks by noting that PC was not easy, but was the only way to a sustainable performance.
