MOBILE APPLICATION AND INTERFACE FOR A SMART GRID DEMAND SIDE POWER CONTROL

ABSTRACT
Power control is a pertinent issue because the demand for power is always increasing and power
is thus becoming more expensive because the sources of power are also limited. As such, a way
to monitor power consumption and hence control the same is necessary so as to cut down costs
and to avoid waste of energy. The development of a mobile phone application to enable the
monitoring of power in the smart circuit breakers called the Modbus so as to develop policies
regarding the management of power has become essential. This is especially due to the fact that
the mobile phone is a versatile device that has the advantage of being able to roam and is thus
accessible as long as there is mobile network coverage. This property enables it to be able to
access the devices that it interacts with from remote locations. The application developed in this
project moves a step closer to attaining this overall goal through creation of databases to store
data and send this data to a remote location where it could be analysed and acted upon.
