Message from the head of Department

 

Welcome to the Department of Electrical and Information Engineering. This is one of the five departments of the School of Engineering, University of Nairobi. The department offers Bachelor's and Master's courses in Electrical and Electronic Engineering as well as PhD studies in the same area. The Department has seen significant growth in the past few years and currently has an undergraduate population of about 700 students with a postgraduate population just shy of 30 students.The Department currently has a dedicated staff of 42, of whom 16 are academic staff at lecturer level and above. The technical staff strength is 16.

The Department strives to provide its students with appropriate knowledge and practical skills in electrical engineering so that they become well rounded engineering graduates, who will not only be technically adept but also disciplined and morally upstanding. The five year Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronic Engineering course includes a critical component of industrial attachment for the students at the end of their fourth year of study to better prepare them for the industry. In addition the course is recognized by Engineers Board of kenya (EBK) and the Institute of Engineers of Kenya (IEK). All these ensure that our graduates are most competitive in the job market. We welcome focused and self-motivated students interested in furthering their understanding and skills in Electrical and Electronic Engineering to join us and realize their dreams.

To all its stakeholders, the Department also strives, at all times to provide timely and appropriate service in line with our Service Delivery Charter.

With the vision of being the leading centre for Electrical and Electronic Engineering training, research, innovation and design in the Africa region and beyond, the Department endeavors to attract and retain the best qualified and able staff while keeping itself well equipped and relevant to the changing job market. The Department aims to build its academic staff capacity through training and sponsorship of qualified graduates to undertake postgraduate studies and currently has 6 Graduate Assistants at various levels of training towards this end. We are also constantly on the lookout for qualified staff who have a vision to be at the cutting edge of engineering training and research to join us in achieving our vision.The Department is an active participant in the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers  (IEEE) Region 8 through its academic staff.
